    Ridgelines

Can someone better explain a Ridgeline? I watched Shugs videos and many others about hammock camping, but dont really understand it. Would paracord tied above my hammock work? Thanks guys.

not sure if your talking about for your hammock or tarp, but i will start with the material first

paracord is nylon and will stretch on you so it is not the best option for a ridgeline, something like amsteel or zing-it is a better option

the ridgeline on a hammock is there so that the ends of your hammock are always the same distance apart, thusly giving you the same lay each time you set up your hammock even if your angles are a bit different

a ridgeline for you tarp is usually there to make adjusting your tarp over the top of your hammock easier, alot of people attach the ends of their tarp to the ridgeline with prussics so they can slide it along the length of the ridgeline to position

Talking about for tarp suspension. I'm on a budget and just starting out so I bought a painters tarp for starting. I'll be getting an Eno DN and using a DIY bugnet because I'm in Texas and will be camping year round. Thanks for explaining it better.

paracord will "work" for a tarp ridgeline, once you set up and get everything taut i would go back in an hour or two and re-tighten it again though, and if it rains on you or gets wet the paracord will stretch some more, just so that your aware

for a ridgeline for a tarp, zing-it or lash-it (same thing different colors) is very popular along with a few other lines, the benefit is that they don't stretch and are lighter weight than paracord
