    First Hang With the Kids!

They love backpacking and the only time I ever go to ground these days is with them, but tonight we are in the air!

My 4 year old is above me and my 5 year old is 10 ft away on her own trees. Low about 45*F, tucked in bags with UQ's.

I'm not sure who's more excited...them or me!

...much like the first few attempts on the ground...we are in the backyard in case we have to abort...but I'm guessing we will be in the piney woods in a few weekends!!!
Afoot and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.

I can not wait to do this with my 3 year old. What did you do for their set ups?

Like angels! It wasn't so much my fear of something happening to them...but you were exactly correct. The winds kicked up pretty strong around midnight and every time my sons hammock swayed his bottom brushed against my ridgeline causing a reverb that followed the line straight into my pillow and ear!!!

    I'll take it though

They each have had Mountain Hardwear, Mountain Goat 20*F bags for a year or so. I decide to go this route vs a TQ so the wouldn't wiggle out of them.

I put an UQ under one and a pad under the other. (Hangnout's daughter is making them one of her final Leighlo's in the next month or so to take care of us all).

I also picked up a couple Hennessy Cubs last summer on Craig's List. They worked out great as they are perfectly sized for them, and I felt comfortable no one would tumble out at night. I put whoopies on one of them and some Warbonnet cinch buckles and straps on other. I will put whoopies on the other I was just short on time to make them. Dynaglide is perfect here.

Also the Cubs have a different rope attachment than the older Hennessy's I once owned. It was MUCH easier to swap the suspension and took merely seconds. The rope was attached with sewn webbing vs the older two hole setup many are familiar with. I'm not sure if this is something new to the Cub hammocks or all the newer Hennessy models.

My daughters UQ did sag away from the hammock a bit. But it is a full length HG quilt with the old suspension. I believe she simply didn't weigh enough to tighten the quilt up without sag. I used the old shock cord over the ridgeline trick to snug it up. I will eventually need to change the suspension on that UQ. I'm pretty sure the new quilt being made by Leigh will be fine in that department as I believe Stormcrow's newer suspension is closer to one Hangnout's already had in play.

Either way we've worked through the kinks which were minimal and we are ready for true backpacking with them, as they already love that!

Great story. Nothing beats getting out with the kids.
