    Hanging in the Redwoods

    Hey everyone!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place...

But I was wondering if anyone here as ever hammocked in the west coast redwoods?

I'm taking a trip there for the first time this summer, and I'm still figuring out my clothing/insulation system.

I'd love to get some ideas from you guys.
So have you done this before? What did your insulation system consist of?

    Thanks!

I found a great page at the Redwood National Park site that lists the typical weather for different seasons as well as averages by month. I'd just take a look at this page and decide when I would want to go and plan accordingly! Also, the Redwoods are gorgeous, enjoy your stay in CA! http://www.redwood.national-park.com/weather.htm
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.

It's not peer pressure, it's just your turn.

Greetings from the Mythical State of Jefferson, (Google it, very interesting story) I live behind the "Redwood Curtain" you can expect mild cool weather with lots of fog, especially in the warmer summer months. I have outfitted all of my hammocks with 8' tree straps and 6' whoopies and always find a place to hang. Prepare to be amazed at the natural splendor that is the "Lost Coast" and remember to watch out for ewoks...

State of Jefferson! I need to get my license plate frame on!

I was just up in Manno's neck of the woods, one of my favorite places, much cooler than death hole valley Redding in the summer.

I concur, long straps and avoid State Parks if you want to do something other than car camp.

Redwoods extend from Big Sur into Oregon. Lots of variation in weather. This time of year, south of Marin County may have fog, but generally very moderate. North of Marin, increasingly cool and more often foggy in ams, but all along, day times should be quite pleasant...t-shirt to light jacket when walking, down to about 50 at night. The the tree straps...secondary forest big to very big straps. Old growth or old secondary...really big straps. As a native Santa Cruzan...no finer forests anywhere in the world. Enjoy.

I have. The default tree straps are fine. You will find trees that can handle your straps. They aren't ALL massive redwoods.

However, there ARE a lot of larger trees and a larger strap wouldn't hurt of course. Just not 100% required.

I enjoyed my visit to the State of Jefferson a couple of years ago. It is definitely an interesting story. It sounds like they got very close to closing the deal until Pearl Harbor happened. Anywho, hanging in the Redwoods would be excellent. Getting down around the coast would be a great spot, big trees and beach.
