Consider this for a hammock stand.

While the instructions are for a swing and arbor I think the swing could be removed and a hammock hung diagonally. Imagine laying in your backyard with wisteria or climbing roses overhead shading you as you relaxed in your hammock. That sounds like a good time to me.

Absolutely! It would be the perfect place to hang in your back yard.

The diagonal will have a little less than 10 feet with how it is constructed if you hung where the vertical section met the horizontal section. If you changed the design so the top beams were full length (or hung off of the end of the 120" top beam) you would move to over 12' diagonal.

    Keep that in mind.

I have built two arbors covered with wisteria...one has maybe 50% wood coverage, like the plans show. The wisteria stays on top of the boards, and is not all that visible from below. My cat really likes it up there, though.

The other arbor is framed just enough to support stock panels. It is light, airy, the wisteria blooms hang down like grapes, and the napping is sublime.

    A lychgate has possibilities, too.

I have a small, spring fed branch that is just begging for a small, covered bridge...sort of a lychgate over water.

I only have one tree out back, so I too have been thinkin' how to fix that without waiting 20 years for another tree to grow to the right size.

I have some giant mulberry trees out front (right on the street) that are in need of some serious trimming. I caught myself staring at one of the 10"diameter limbs yesterday as a possible post. It would be somewhat temporary but would give me many months of hanging before it would need to be replaced. I think two bags on quikrete, that limb, and a hole should work great.

I really like the idea of hiding the attachment points with a vine of some sort.

The swing looks great, but if your garage looks like mine, it aint gonna happen for a while.

That sounds like a little slice of heaven. You should post a picture with of your hammock setup with the wisteria hanging down.

Looks great to me. I would not hesitate to hang out back in one. Just one more thing to add to my wish list.
