I think the best way to do a treeless suspension, when working by yourself, is to make tripods or bipods at each end. I've been trying to find a way to set up single poles at each end; it is very difficult to do alone!

Very nice Mac. What kind of stakes did you use for the back stays on this setup? I'm going to have to use this kind of technique in the south end
of Linville. The 2007 fires left very few live trees in most areas.

i did this last year with single aluminum poles. (3) 2' sections made from alum tubeing. i could have used a much smaller dia. i think. maybe 1 1/2" or 1 1/4" possibly. this would lighten it up alot.

the sizes all fit together, but i had to hand sand the insert pieces a good bit so they'd come apart and go together easily without sticking. they work well. for car camping, i think the bi pole like shug has sould be nice because of only needing to use one heavy stake would be convenient.
