Carabiner & Gatherd End

Quite new to hanging and HF and have found this site to be an awesome place to gather knowledge and spur creativity(could be dangerous). Was in REI and I saw this lightweight carabiner and thought I would try this out, spent last night testing it, seemed fine.

Today I got ENO Atlas Hammock Suspension System to use instead of the strap and wrap ring.
Going to just put a ENO AHSS loop through the carabiner.

Any insight from those with experience ? Or what might be done to make it better?

That will work! Most people on HF have gone to whoopies or soft shackles but steel feels more reliable. There is not one hard piece of gear in my setup and sometime I wonder if that such a good idea. I took a friend camping last weekend and he thought it was all shoe laces. Lol.

as one who is not as GRAM conscious as the ultra-lite back packers, i applaud your thought process

you use the word BETTER & i translated that to SIMPLER, w/ equal or greater dependability

Thanks that was my thought process, To make it faster and simpler And being a kayaker i am not extremely conscious about weight either. I don't care if it weighs 10 pounds as long as it's not bulky, If it's faster and simpler I'm all about that. Most times I Fish till dark, And a simple fast set up Is more important to me than a little extra weight.

With that said to each their own!

I have the Atlas straps also, and the same carabiner; I set mine up just a bit different. The strap I got at REI it's a climbing strap rated the same as the carabiner and was $5. Got one for each end.

That + Atlas straps = 2 min set up.

Takes longer to string the tarp than to set the hammock!

Let us know how those straps work out for you. The earlier ones Eno made where a miserable failure... things stretch like crazy. Hopefully, these guys are much better.

Doing it this way would be easier to get the biner on the Atlas straps I would think compared to having the biners oriented the other way as in your picture.
