Probably the best is your existing sleeping bags used as a quilt assuming you have down bags now. Second best would be duck down bag maybe cut down a bit.

I've been really pleased with the Walmart 32* duck down bag Ozark Mountain Trails Cocoon. I just did a trip and used it with a Wilderness Logics SSUQ rated at 40*, In Missouri I slept comfortable with a low of about 39* with a light breeze, last night it got down to about 53* in Lake James. I could have went colder without supplementation and warmer with no problems. Stock bag weighs in at 1lb. 7 ozs., I will be removing tags and replacing the stock cord and cord locks with light weight materials and maybe eventually converting to a TQ, it compresses well. At $80, I don't know of a better bargin.
I recently invested a good amount of dollars getting myself/wife/son hammocks and under-insulation. I got a Blackbird XLC 1.1 DL w/ 3 season yeti UQ and they got HH Expeditions with the HH Insulation system (half price at the time).
