Anyone else coming? I think this is going to be a fantastic hang! I'm planning on bringing a small pole and trying my hand at some fishing along the way. I might even break from my freezer bag cooking if I can catch and cook fresh fish! I'm sure Digitizer will have an iron skillet I can borrow!
Gideon
I am trying to rearrange the schedule so that I can make this hang/float and yes Gideon I do carry around a cast iron skillet in my pack it matches the dutch oven that I also bring along.
This sounds like it will be a lot of fun and I am going to try and talk one or more of my boys into coming along.
Amazing! My hammock straps were the first to break in many of the tress along the shores of the Eleven Point. Rarely logging into HF these days, I was quite surprised to see the river the destination of a hang. Doubt if I can get in on this, but hope all ya'll have a good time on the river!
Ill be joining you on this one ,if all things go well.
Ok guys, I have some more info now.
We'll be using 11 Point Canoe rental as our rental and shuttle service.
Eleven Point River Canoe Rental
417-778-6497
Rt. 2 Box 2522
Alton, MO 65606
At the Junction of US Hwy 160 & State Hwy 19
http://www.11pointcanoe.com/
They have canoes and kayaks available.
Please contact them for rentals and let them know that you are with the Hammock Group.
They advised to call on July 18th or 19th to reserve your rental, not before.
If you are bringing your own kayak or canoe, I don't know if they will haul/shuttle for you...please inquire with them. You may need to make other arrangements.
We'll meet there at 8am Saturday.
We will do a 20 mile float, stopping about 1/2 way (or a little further) to camp Saturday night, then float the rest of the way Sunday to our pick-up point.
With beauty all around you, may you walk.
Ok I need some insight here. . . I would rate myself as an intermediate in a canoe. For those who have been down the eleven point how would you rate it for rapids, hazards, etc.? My daughter is a novice at best and did not be up you-know-what's creek without a paddle if I were to bring her? She has been down one 14 mile run down the Niangua so far.
I've never floated this river but hiked along a good portion of it. I've been trying to research it but can't find any reference to rapids or chutes, etc. I think the biggest obstacles would be rocks or submerged trees. I'm an experienced canoeist (is that a word) and can teach/coach. If you're an intermediate I don't think she'll have any problem if she knows the fundamentals about riding in a canoe, entering, exiting, etc. and she can pick that up in a few minutes as we set out. I'll keep looking but when you try to find anything on the net about 11 point river, well...it all seems tame.
Gideon
Yeah, everything I see on youtube looks very tame.
With beauty all around you, may you walk.
Sounds great but I just got back from an outing in tick-land.
I'd guess I picked up somewhere around 10-20 ticks per mile - that in addition to all the flying face-critters (and the heat) that ruined the fun.
Think I'm ready to become a three season hammocker and skip the rest of summer.
