Am I the only one that didn't know they come in black too? I walked out of REI with a bag full of them I was so excited!

I've never had them slip on me and I've hung in tropical depressions in Florida (see: big wind gusts). Now that I'm not counting grams anymore, I've gone back to attaching them to my groundhogs in addition to the ridge. I use either Speer's No Tangle or Yellow Masons Line on my groundlines (depends on which tarp) and haven't had the first problem with them slipping. I do take a little of the extra and wrap the 9's tooth with it, but nothing that takes more than 2 seconds.

So I ended up getting 6 - 9s for $.01 ea. Cha-ching! I don't know if this was a fluke or is available at your HD but maybe worth checking out. Oh and if you've ever used the small S-biners made by the same company they were also the same $.01!
I checked my local HD, and they only had the large 9's in stock, and they were selling for full price.

Which size s-biners did you get? I checked the prices on a couple of sizes, and they were all normal price, but I didn't check the smallest or largest ones.

all I could make out was that they have plastic S-biners now. Best I could tell the Figure-9's remain metal. Could be I'm going blind.

I can confirm they have plastic ones. I went to REI to return something at lunch. Any prudent and wise person would have pocketed the money, but the way I figure it that money was already spent on gear; why change things?

Anyhow, during my travels I saw some MSR reflective cord in a 'kit'. Upon closer inspection I saw 6 black plastic fig 9s. Of course, I had to buy it. They are even branded with MSR's logo in addition to the Niteize logo. Kind of cool.

The S biners that I got were metal about 1 1/2" long x 5/8" wide. All the 9s and S biners I bought were marked for the regular price they just rang up for a penny each and HD confirmed that was the price. I'm going to check another local HD and see if they also have them for a penny if so I'll stock up.

Yeah, I took them up to the self-checkout and ran price checks, and they all matched the prices on the tags. I was disappointed, I was hoping to stock up.

I read the above, dropped everything and went to my local Home Depot. I didn't find any one-cent dealies but they did have 2-packs of the small figure 9's with cord for $1.74, original price $6.94. The cheapest I had found on Froogle was $8.26 for a 4-pack with cord (before shipping). Anyway, I bought all they had, 9 packs. I wanted at least 8 so that was perfect. THANKS for the great tip!!!

I just went to the other HD near me and they were totally picked over. All the small 9s and S biners were gone. I bought the last 2 larger 9s (the only ones left) and they were marked down to $.99 from previous $5.49 so still a good deal. They are too large for BPing but will be useful around the house / yard etc...
