Glad to see you made it out OK. Add to your list to learn to move the boat up higher when the weather kicks up. Easier than all the work you did. ;-) Thanks for sharing, it's something we all need to think about.

That was a good read. What an ordeal. The good thing about experiencing that sort of adversity on a trip is that you'll never forget it. You'll look back on it with some fondness at having come through it unharmed and the next time you're in a fix or experiencing some inconvenience or discomfort, this event will help you put it in perspective and it won't spoil your fun.
    Thanks for the interesting read.

    Cheers,
    - Martin

Definitely should have moved it either farther up the beach or across the way to the other side of the beach!

Always glad to share! I hope others don't see themselves in that predicament but if they do, hopefully they'll remember this thread and try some of the tricks
Seems the trips out with my brother always end up being a good story, and a good lesson to boot.

Camping via the water brings a whole other dimension to things when they go south. You can never prepare too much. You had a tough experience but you'll learn from it and be more prepared the next time. Glad your ok and your next outing will be better.

Thank you for sharing your trip. It is hard to think straight when cold. Camping with someone else certainly worked in your favor. Cold and wet are not friends of mine.

So in hammock language, that would be, "Never hang farther than your willing to swim."

Glad you're both okay, and thanks for the report. Maybe there's a connection between the ability to think clearly, adapting to changing circumstances, and the ability to craft a clear written report to share with others. Of course, conceptualizing is only part of the story. Preparation and teamwork are other factors. Also luck. Well done!

Impressive event and I'm impressed with your brother and you figuring the situation out and making it all work. It is scary when things so south but keeping your heads like you did makes all the difference! Thanks for sharing the trip story with us. Always good to keep in the back of your mind that things don't always go as planned! Having options is always a good thing too!

Thanks for the kind words everyone, it was a harrowing experience but luckily we're both fairly well acquainted with the water and it was a familiar area for us.

We just tried to prioritize what we needed for survival. We had shelter, we had the means to make fire, and we had food and (truly unfortunate amounts of) water.

I think the real source of our panic was the thought we might mess up Mother's Day brunch by being late or not making it out in time :P Happy wife, happy life, right?
