Glad to hear everyone was okay. Weather will kill anyone without the wits to take care of their core temp. I am the paranoid one that will pack a wool emergency blanket in July....I never feel like I'm completely safe.

Glad you're both okay, and thanks for the report. Maybe there's a connection between the ability to think clearly, adapting to changing circumstances, and the ability to craft a clear written report to share with others. Of course, conceptualizing is only part of the story. Preparation and teamwork are other factors. Also luck. Well done!

Combine it with some of the goings on at last winters Mt. Rogers hang and you have a whole bunch of lessons worth learning! Most trips go pretty smooth, but you learn a lot from trips like this one.

You had Merino wool, so that's good. Can you tell us what other kind of clothing you were dealing with? It sounds like you got pretty wet, right?

Sure thing! I had the Icebreaker 200 weight base layer, a wool blend sweater, and some quick-dry khaki pants, not even sure of the brand. For a rain jacket I had a Helly Hansen shell, but even having recently re-applied some DWR treatment, the rain had soaked through after a short time. Not proper rain gear by any stretch of the imagination! I really think the base layer helped the most in keeping me warm (that and the roaring fire I took the time to build up).
