    Suspension Help

I have a Claytor JH and would like to change the support system from the current webbing setup. I would like to use a Ring Buckle setup (like discussed here http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeGe...eSupports.html) but have a few questions.
First, what line should be used from the hammock to the ring buckles?

Secondly, considering the Claytor has a sewn channel, any reason not to feed this line through the channel?

And lastly, what kind of knot should I be using with this line?

I have done a lot of reading throughout some of the lengthy posts on this, but I am still a little hazy on some of the details.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum, Collier.

There are lots of choices for the line to use on the suspension. Whatever you choose, it needs to be small enough to prussik onto the buckles nicely, non-stretch, and strong. I'm personally partial to 5/32" Spyderline.

Concerning the end channel, it should be no problem just running your cording through that channel. If you use the 5/32" diameter line linked above, I would use a 'double strand' of it run through the channel. That's easy to do, since a prussik coming off the buckles will leave you with 2 free ends. Just make them long enough to go all the way through the channel, and then to tie back onto the standing end.

For the knot, a properly tied bowline knot (using both strands) works well.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Angrysparrow!

Just so I am clear, you would take the 5/32 line and on one end tie a Prussik knot to the rings and then take both 'legs' of the remaining line and thread them through the hammock channel and then secure them using a bowline to the line coming off of the rings but outside of the channel.

Sorry for the thick-headedness. Just don't want to end up on my head

Another option is do what I did and instead of using cordage from the hammock to the rings I just use another peice of webbing that is sewn around the rings.

Hey GrillMaster I can not this weekend but I should be able to get back in the woods in a couple of weeks.

This is what I was thinking of doing. Sew the rings into one end of a strap & a loop into the other. Then just larkshead the whole thing thru the stock channel. Would this work ok?
