Get to some group hangs, make it real, shake hands and look in the eyes of those who post. We've made it a priority to meet these bits and dots that appear on screen. Guess what? After approaching 30+ group hangs I can tell you HFers are good folk...they put on their clothes just like you and I do. Over the last so many years I've had the good occasion to be with so many HFers I can only consider myself blessed indeed.
If there was ever a group of individuals (think about that for a second) that has such trust in helping/interacting with their fellow man it is here.

I'm a noobie, been on the Forum for a couple of weeks. I also participate in bicycling forums and I've lurked at some others. I have never seen a forum as welcoming and civilized as this. Does the moderator cull all the a-holes out or are all these people really nice? I think it's the latter. After all, we're all talking about getting a good night's sleep, not doing something active and aggressive.

It's true. We're all basically tired.

I will add this, in the few hangs I have had the opportunity to attend, I have not been disappointed in any way. The hangers whose names I was familiar with turned out to be even better in person than I could have imagined them to be, and the others I have met were all top notch folks. I am pleased to say that I now have a whole lot of friends whom I didn't even know about a couple years ago. Hammock Forums is a great community.
