MI > Official Spring Hang > Nordhouse > June 7th

    All.....

The date is established. JUNE 7, 2013

I'm going to have to leave the general plan up to some veterans who have actually been to Nordhouse before (I have not).

I'm assuming by the looks of the trail system that we set up camp and run day hikes but I'm open for whatever.

Hope for a great turnout with no snow.

With the way our weather has been, I wouldn't doubt that we have snow. I may be able to make this one, will have to double check my work schedule.

If there is snow it just means more beach for the group. Should be there Snow or shine.

I was just up there this weekend and got snowed on, it was cold.

Water is 40ish - I only went in ankle deep to get water. By June 7 it may be 50!

I don't want to hijack the thread, but can anyone comment on the mosquito activity in the area right now?

I'm thinking about getting away this weekend but my backpacking season ends when those little buggers come out. Unfortunatley they LOVE me and no preventative measures help. Thanks!

I am about two hours south if this areas and got eaten alive yesterday on a day hike. Mosquitoes are out and with a vengeance.

Where at? I did 4 miles in Saugatuck Dunes yesterday after work, they didn't seem too bad.

That's why the beach at Nordhouse is key, with any breeze at all the bugs disappear! (Except for giant horse flys, they'll still chase you around)

I was afraid of that I really appreciate the update! Driving 4 hours to get eaten alive would be a horrible waste of gas and a weekend.

I walked my dog here yesterday (Ft Wayne, IN) and I got 6 bites just standing still for about 15 seconds. Couldn't kill them fast enough. I was hoping they would come out later farther north. I would man up and do it, but I just don't have fun swatting and smacking myself every 5 seconds.

Permethrin, DEET (even OFF deep woods), bracelets, Thermacell, citronella, lemon eucalyptus, Picaridin, = ALL miserable failures for me so I have to throw in the towel. Maybe I need to invest in a bee keeper suit!

Nordhouse is always worth it! I've never had an experience with bugs bad enough to ruin the weekend. You'll be more annoyed with the sand in every nook and cranny on your body and gear. Lol
