    Lifespan of Amsteel???

What is the lifespan of 7/64th amsteel blue whoopie sling?

I guess the obvious answer is....just before they snap, but I'd like to avoid that.

Mine really aren't what I'd consider old and over-used, but right at the bury the weave seems to look a little suspicious.

My whoopie slings opened up at the splice almost immediatly and have been that way for well over a year. As long as the fibers of the rope are not cut the strength will not be compromised.

The weave opening up is normal. Just keep an eye on the braids and look for fraying. As long as they haven't been in the sun or wet for extended periods they will probably last a while.

Lol. Isn't that how we all fall? Is a good question you ask though and I'm only going on what's happened with my gear as well as what I've read.

HYOH and ultimately the hanger has to decide if their woopiez look to damaged to use or not. However all of the woopies ive used have also opened up at the splice as well and remain fully functional. With that said I used the same pair of dynaglide woopies for two years before I switched them out. And the only reason I did was because they were orange and I had just gotten some brand new green dynaglide and I decided I wanted to start using a new colour. And the last factor would be how many time a year u use them. So it really all depends. What it comes down to is do you feel safe hanging from them and if the answer is yes go for it but if the answer is no then either get new ones or take a picture of the questionable area post here and get others opinions
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I have several hundred nights on my first pair of diy dynaglide whoopies. They are still doing their job, they still adjust fine, and I weigh ALOT.

Inspect them prior to each hang (not much can really go wrong, but its a safe to check). Make sure you "milk" them thoroughly before weighting them, and you'll be good to go.

All the whoopies I have made opened up at the splice after just a little use. I'm still using all of them. If they ever get to concern me, I'll relegate those whoopies to my loaner hammocks!
