Question about an everyday sleeping hammock

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and thought it would be the best place to ask this question: after I return this fall from a summer work-project, I'll be moving into a very small studio apartment (that happens to have nice bay windows). I'd like to optimize my space as much as possible and have considered sleeping in a hammock every night instead of a futon.

I'd like to rig a hammock so that I could fold it up quickly and easily during the day then hang it back at night without any trouble. This setup would give me even more room than a futon (and would be totally cool! Having guest might get tricky, though...).

Because I'd be sleeping in it every night, I also want to make sure it's very comfortable.

So... how should I balance being very comfortable with being efficient?

I saw the Lazy Bandido hammocks and was wondering if this product would be a good compromise.

I'd appreciate any help folks could offer. Thank you!

    Cheers,

Question about an everyday sleeping hammock

Mounting it to the walls is a tricky but takes up no space at all. Search on here and you will find advise on bolting three stubs together. If that wont work for one reason or another, there are lots of good stands on here as well. They take up a little space but I think some fold. Where I live door frames have to be reinforced so I put long eye bolt into the door frame and was done in minutes.

Welcome aboard. Being that you're in an apt the owner/management probably won't allow attaching to walls, etc. Here is a link to what I've been using for a couple of years now. Mine was scavenged but new ones can be bought for less than $100. A cut thru the top center rail and a piece of tubing to extend the length and you'll have a freestanding hammock stand that can go with you when you move.

Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Excellent! Thanks to you both for the replies. :-)

I'm going to speak with my landlord about paying a little to have bolts added to the walls. If she says yes, I'll go for it with the help of one of the maintenance gents (a company oversees my apartment). Could you possibly link a couple of threads on the forums that have the best advice on bolting?

If my landlord says no, I'll go the freestanding route. :-p

    Thanks again!
