    First overnight hang

Last night I ventured out into the "wilderness" of the Chopawamsic Backcountry Area (Prince William Forest National Park) for my first all night hang. Long story short, I survived.

First off, if you live near PWFNP you should check out the backcountry. Its beautiful.

Here is my hammock setup (Northwoods hammock, Hennessy Hex Fly)

And one of the streams leading into the local reservoir just minutes from the campsite:

Overall it was a successful hang. I had a few minor gotchas like discovering that my sleeping bag opens on the left while the hammock opens on the right... and I woke up in the night with a hyperextended knee.

Now I just need to get up the nerve to take the show on the road and hit the ATC for a few days in the SNP.

    Looks awesome.

I am still a newb myself... My first Hang was about a year ago... Had Nylon straps and I woke up in the middle of night with my butt dragging the floor.

That's not far from me - I'll have to check it out. I'll have to check out that tarp too - I'm in the market for something a little bigger than the stock Hennessy diamond shape tarp that I got with my setup. Looks like you had fun!

The Hennessy Hex tarp is quite nice. Its heavier than I would have wanted but I saved a little money compared to one of the super light weight cuben fiber tarps.

They allow hammocks now? That used to be a no-no.
