    Another permethrin question!

I found this at my local farm store. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1369169035.040999.jpg

My question, how does one find out the "other" ingredients? This stuff is meant to be poured on animals I wouldn't think it had anything too nasty in it but one can never be sure. I tried google but had no real luck just some speculation by others.

    Thanks in advanced.

    Permathin

Depends on price, maybe a great deal, the Sawyers is .05% Permathin and a pint is 10.00 at wally world, treats 2 outfits, I like using the stuff when I cut the grass. I wouldn't be afraid of 1% myself but I'm old and just frankly don't care anymore...lol....I may see if tractor supply has what you have pictured. If you can put it on a cow it's probably not gonna kill a human.

The MSDS is available here, not sure if that has what you're looking for but it probably has as much information as you're likely to get.

All the "farm store" Permethrin that I've found has petroleum distillates in it and smells like it to some degree.

The stuff I've found for in-home use is water-based and odorless (or as close as it can get).

As far as it being safe on one kind of animal = safe for all kinds of animals (that includes humans), that can cause a lot of grief. Liquid Permethrin kills all sorts of animals, even though safe on livestock. It kills cats and fish, for two I know of. Be careful, in other words, with quick false comparisons.

I did a lot (and I mean a lot!) of googling and reading while trying to find either Sawyers or an equivalent available in Canada.

What I found out about everything other than Sawyers' clothing treatment is that the inert ingredients weren't what I wanted to have on my gear and clothing. Even though it's safe for on animals doesn't mean that it's safe for fabrics.

Most of the inert ingredients were petroleum based products and are used to make the active ingredient 'stick' to whatever it was meant to be used on.

IIWM, I'd stick to using the stuff that was meant for on clothing.

Stick with sawyers and read directions - it will do more like a hammock and 2 pairs of clothing.

If you get the ratio wrong you will be itching for a month.... IF its for cows let the cows have it. Your efforts to save $5 may land you in the hospital

See if your store has Bonide Bedbug Killer. It's made for bedding, so it shouldn't hurt your gear. I haven't seen any ill effects yet. It's cheap too.

Hang your hammock, bugnet, etc. Then hang your hiking clothes on the hammock and spray all together. Saves on the spray and treats everything at once.
