    Walmart fabric department gone everwhere?

I visited my local Walmart yesterday and , as usual, I cruised the fabric department to check the Dollar Bin.

    AAAACK!!

It was gone. No fabric at all.

I've heard of this happening at other locations. Is it universal or do some stores still have fabric (and a Dollar bin)??

We have 2 WalMart stores. Last year each one had a sewing section. Now all gone. In our stores they made room for scrapbooking and wedding supplies which is waymore profitable for them, I'm sure.

Still have one by me with the fabric department. Well, it was there a week ago anyway.

I have 6 Walmart stores within a 30 minute drive of my house. In the past, 5 out of the 6 had fabric departments. I think only one still carries fabric.

Sunday I had the same experience as you did, Grinder. The fabric department was gone. Scrapbooking supplies had replaced it. The store employees told me of a new small local fabric store, run by a co-worker from the store and her husband. They had bought a lot of the Wal-Mart fabric at the clearance. I checked there, but they had no sil-nylon. The hubby told me that because the wife was employed by Wal-Mart, they could not carry anything that duplicated anything Wal-Mart sold. He was going to check at their source and see if the sil-nylon was available. He said if he could get it he should be able to sell it at less mark up than Wal-Mart.

An employee told me that Walmarts remodel their stores every 5 years. For the last couple of years, they've eliminated the fabric dept. in the remodeling. If you do find fabric, ask an employee when is the next remodeling, then you'll know to shop a lot before then.

The two WalMarts I shop at both have fabric departments but they are smaller than they were a year ago. I can sometimes find ripstop at one of them but have never found sil-nylon at either.

Depends on where you are and how many people sew. We fought to keep ours since this is a big sewing area.
