    Dual-Hammock Spreader Bar???

I introduced a guy at work to hammocking. He's super interested, but he thinks his girl friend is not going to want to hang "alone" (on her own two trees).

I suggested sharing one tree at the head and using separate trees at the foot end. He's going to run that by her, but just incase she won't go for it, what do you think about this idea.

He wanted to know what I thought about a spreader bar to keep them from being crammed together, while still allowing them to hang from the same to strong trees.

There would be separate tree huggers and suspensions for each hammock. They would just be hanging from the same trees. The spreader bars in question would be at the head and foot of the hammock, and would keep them close but not constantly fighting over the center-line between the trees.

Here's a pic for the visual folks.

I think that would work. you would have to be careful of the sheer pressure on those divider bars and the friction they would put on the suspension. but everything is worth a try at least once

Seen it before in past posts and if my memory is still good, I think the main issue encountered was that each hammocker could feel movements of the other hammocker.
Another issue was the strength of the spreader bar needed to be pretty high.

I actually used a 2 by2 cut into 3 foot sections. Cut a little notch at the end for the straps to slide into so it would not pop off later while in use. works great though if there is any need to get up during the night the other side will rise a bit.

Wouldn't that be pretty tipsy? If one of the occupants leaves their hammock, the other one would go down quite a bit, I imagine. Also I would suspect that the heavier occupant would push their hammock down more than the lighter occupant.

That's how I'm planning on getting the whole family in hammocks this coming fall. Side-by-side and double decker. Should be fun!

Since we have two sets of trekking poles the only thing remaining now is the mondo-sized tarp that I have to make.

Would welcome any ideas. Right now just researching where I can get material in mass quantities.
