    Tarp Suggestions?

I am thinking about asking the better half for a tarp for my B-Day... Need something reasonable around C-note give or take.

Some of the thoughts I have had so far are:

    AHE Toxaway Lake
    WL Tadpole
    Others?

I like that WL can add the "pockets" for the guy lines. I also think I would like the slighty smaller size of the Tadpole (132" vs 144").

What are your thoughts on the 2 and any others I should Consider?

    Re: Tarp Suggestions?

I love my Hennessey Hex. It is 10x12 and has the pockets for the guy lines. I use the lines that came with it and it works great. Having the 12' ridgeline is great for the long 11' hammocks.

Even though I own a cuben tarp, my Tadpole is my go to tarp 99% of the time.

I use cuben however a friend of mine recently purchased a tad pole from WL and I seam sealed it for her and even though I have not camped with it she reported back to me that it kept her and her WBBB dry in a 48hr rain storm. So if your not going to go cuben then I'd consider looking at the Western Logic tarps. However Warbonnet makes a great tarp as well so a tarp from either vendor would do you very well. It alll comes down to price and the small differences in dimensions between the tarps.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

(IMHO) The WL Tadpole is my spring to fall "go to" tarp. It's lite and has great coverage.
I couldn't find a better tarp for the money.

When the cold weather sets in I carry my WL OldManWinter. It has longer sides and doors.
The OMW is also my wife's fav because she feels more secure and private inside it's cavernous coverage.

I will be purchasing a WL BigDaddy later this summer. The BD has the side length of my OMW but no doors.
I think/hope it will be the best of both worlds.

BTW, I have 3 hammocks and only 2 tarps so obviously it is mandatory that I pickup a 3rd tarp

I hope this was helpful in some small way.

    Re: Tarp Suggestions?

When I was looking at tarps, I was pretty sure I was going with the Tadpole. A few members mentioned that, for a few dollars more, the Big Daddy was a good bit larger.

I ended up with the Big Daddy mainly because it's my first tarp & I just figured a larger tarp gave me more room for error, if not put up perfectly. I definitely won't run out of room anytime soon!

That's the best part for me, my family ask me what I want, I tell them, they look confused and tell me to order it and then they transfer money into my bank account. I don't like surprises so it's a win win.

For weight vs. coverage vs. price, it's really hard to beat the Tadpole in a manufacturer-bought tarp (DIY will likely come out cheaper, if you already have the skills).

As to the tip-off? Well, my way is to tell my wife when she asks; she tells everyone else what I'm looking for. Don't know if that'll work for you.

    Hope it helps!
