    May Long weekend family trip

Our first camping trip of the year. Tried a new area only a half hour drive away. Found some great piney woods with ample room to hang all five hammocks, as well as put up a tarp to stay dry in the substantial rain we got. Two of the kids got a little wet, from tarps shifting, but I have fabric on order to try making a hex tarp, so if that works, everyone will start to be more adequately covered.
This was the first time the whole family hung in the bush at once, and the first outside hang for our 5 year old daughter. They all did great and had a good time in spite of the rain

    The pictures in order:
The lake that was a five minute walk from camp
All five Hennessy Hammocks in a row
My pooped pup warming up by the fire (she got a little too close the next day, her tail isn't quite as fluffy at the moment)
My wife's new Monsoon Tarp. She loves it!
The dogs tent (green and grey) and my buddies tent. Still haven't converted him.

I haven't ventured up that way much, guess I'm gonna have to change that! Nice that you can all hang so close together, that's a pretty sweet tarp your wife has

I've worked up that way quite a bit over the years. There are tons of places just like that up there. And no ticks. One of our regular spots is up at Black Sturgeon Lake quite a ways farther up. We're hoping to canoe from there down to Lake Superior this year.
The tarp was her Christmas present. She was quite excited to finally use it.

checked out Black Sturgeon Lake last summer, bf and I have talked about starting there and ending at Superior, only in kayaks. It was a great spot, I totally loved it. Did you check out the old Wilderness camp up there? Do you camp there or at the sand beach farther up? Both are pretty awesome spots

We generally camp at the beaches, but farther to the East where there are more trees. We've seen the Wilderness camp, but never stopped there. We also camped at the South end of the lake about a km down the river. The canoe up to the lake was great and caught a nice bass supper on the way.

Looks as if a great time was had by all. Beautiful looking place. Great that the whole family can enjoy camping together like this.

So would you say there is a "tick line" or "tick front" running through Thunder Bay? I got literally covered in ticks (15+) in 15 minutes bushwacking in the spring last year south of the city just south of Loch Lomond, and got ticks hiking near High Falls at the border the year before that. Then I watched one of the videos by the wintertrekking guy, who was up in Wabikimi area, partly to avoid ticks, and you're saying there aren't many ticks up the spruce river road. Just wondering how far north one has to go...maybe it's a Great Lakes vs, Boreal forest thing?

BTW looks like a nice hang...thanks for the pics.
