OK, now for overkill. I use a braided boot lace, a long one so I can get plenty of leverage when tightening it up. Too much, I'm sure it is. I like it.

Klauss,if you use the method in the video, could you just use the whoopie sling directly to whip the end? Or would still need to use a chain link or whatever.

I installed the fixed eye end of the whoopie using this method and tightened it up but am thinking I might be better off whipping using a chain link then connect the whoopie.

I used some cheap clothes line from wally world, threaded it through my end channel, wrapped it around the end of the hammock giving it a right-over-left on each side of my wrap, until I finished it off with a square knot. Then I larks-headed my whoopie sling just past the end of the wraps. I didn't want to waste costly cord when there are cheaper alternatives.

I used a small fixed eye on the whoopie to do it all with one piece - works great! Both my DIY hammocks are done this way and I can't say anything bad about it.

1/8 in solid braided polyester sash cord. ;-)

The answer to the knot video is that if all one is doing is tieing the end ball almost anything works. Then using a whoopee or spliced loop to attach the hardware. If using a larger rope to both hold the gather and act as a hanging rope the knot is a good answer. I have used it many times to try different materials from the dollar bin at Walmart. ;-)
    YMMV

I use a loop of 7/64" Amsteel. I tie the ends of the Amsteel together using a double fishermans knot (If I could ever figure out how to splice it I would slpice it vise using a knot ).

I run the loop thru the sew end channel and larks head it and then wrap the Amsteel loop around the hammock (loosely) to create the balled end and then pull the Amsteel loop thru the hammock ball and tighten everything.

I will run the fishermans knot into the channel so to hide it.

I have used this method on 3 DIY and several commercial made hammocks where I removed the heavy factory cord ect to lighten the suspension.

Ooh, I like that gunner, how long do you make the loop?

If you go to the 4:30 mark in this video there's a good demonstration on creating a 'ball' at the end of the hammock to which you can attach your preferred suspension.

    All great stuff.

One of my whoopies is MIA after the last camping trip so I went with some heavy cord as a chain link and followed the video.

15 mins later Bob's your uncle.

Located the missing whoopie at my sister's and will be doing the "all in one" method for knot/suspension with the whoopie later today on another hammock/gift.

    As always, appreciate the help.
