Grizz (and other Road Warriors,) this one is for you

I got stuck on the road, but never fear - I always have a hammock with me. A crappy hotel just gives you another place to hang.

Grizz, we've joked in the past about how to hang in a hotel room, and I finally found a room that will accomodate a hammock. Once around the door between adjoining rooms, the other side is around the bathroom door. Guess where I'm sleeping tonight?

    neat.
I'm sure if I tried this I'd end up ripping the door off the hinges.

But I think you're on to something here. I bet there is usually at least one attachment point at a door like you've done. Then maybe one of the one pole stand solutions for the other end, if only there was a way to anchor the cord on the floor. Jammed under the bed??? Usually really heavy beds...maybe a loop around the base of one...

I think I'll just bring a travel hammock and a bunch of cord on my next solo trip.

You'd be surprised how sturdy it is. The weight is pulling back towards the hinges and frame on both doors (both thin wood doors, btw.) It actually required me to close and latch the doors for the extra stability. My elbow was rubbing the dresser for most of the night, but not bad.

I tried using a bed as an anchor point/attachment the previous night in Minneapolis, and I couldn't figure out a way to keep the bed from sliding when I put weight in the hammock. I actually requested a room with 2 double beds, and was thinking there might be a way to use them in tandem or wrap a cord around one. My other attachment point was the heavy duty hinge on the adjoining door between the rooms - my "s" hook just hooked over the hinge. Didn't work - the bed was too light. I was joking to my co-workers about going down to the local hardware store and picking up a stud finder and an eye bolt. What do you think the hotel would have to say about that? And now for sure I am going down as the "hammock freak" at work.

Haha. That's awesome! Beats the heck out of that dirty hotel bed.

This made me remember an attachment that came with some of my rubber exercise bands that I took with me when I traveled. They have a door attachment that is nothing more than a webbing loop with a sewn in metal stopper on one side. I threaded it through the side of the door with the hinges and used it to do arm workouts. It works really well. I think one could take this same principle and make it work with a hammock.

Here is a terrible picture of the product, but they do look extremely easy to build. Anybody used one these before?
