DIY Hammock / Knotty Before or After

Hey guys I'm about to start on my second diy hammock. I would like to incorporate the knotty mod this time. Is it easier to do as your making the hammock or add it after you sew it all up? My first hammock is a basic gathered end whipped ends and it seems to lay best using one certain end for the head end. I also like to lay with my head to the right. Should I knotty both sides both ends or make it one way and go with it? Thanks for the input. I'm talking about the stretchy mod. I think that's what its called anyway

If you just do one head and one foot end with the knotty mod that will be fine, if you want to lay the other way you can flip the hammock.

I find it much easier to put the mod in during the construction process. If you lay with you head right, do a mod at the top on the right side if you were laying in it and do a mod on the bottom at the opposite side near where your feet are.

Thanks, I was wondering if ya'll thought it was easier before or after. I forgot you flip it over. With my sewing skills I'll probably sew right through the shock cord lol.

I do mine after the fact. I set up the hammock and give it a test run, while testing I can mark where I want the Knotty Mod to go. Go back and fire up the thread injector and add the Mod.

I'm thinking I might do it after too. My sewing tended to get a little off course on my first hammock and well uhhh I haven't really been practicing since then so, but then maybe that's why I should put it in first. At least it would be in there. Thanks for the replys.

My first attempt at the Knotty stretch side, I added after. When trying to burn the holes, a few went all the way through both sides of the channel. The next, I did during construction, which made things much easier. I also put the mod on all four corners, so I don't have to flip my hammock. I sometimes switch the way I'm laying in the middle of the night, maybe just because, sometimes I get up for the "call of nature" and want to lay back down different, either way, it would be a PITA to have to flip the hammock and move the quilts around. All I have to do is switch, and tighten the cord locks, done......RR

did mine after, it worked fine. burned the holes and was really careful.

only have it on one side, but i'm thinking about adding the other sides too

I did mine after. Like somebody above said... lay it out, get comfy, THEN decide where you want it and how long... as long as your rolled hem is big enough, it's a piece of cake.
