We just had our Troop planning meeting the other night and now I have a predicament. The boys tentatively scheduled a Hammock Campout the same weekend as the Spring MAHHA. First I'm flattered that they wanna hammock camp. I wasn't even paying attention when they did this. But I love coming to the Spring MAHHA this year. I was wondering if it would be appropriate to bring the boys to the MAHHA? It would probably be around 12-18 boys and some may still be ground dwellers.

Donna here...Although the scouts would be very welcome by our group...both hangers...& want-a-be hangers....after discussing this with some of the MAHHA planners...we have determined that this wouldn't be a wise idea for several reasons.
-The MAHHA's are a Hammock forums function. If we included one scout troop, then more would come. In past years, there have been several scout leaders that couldn't attend the MAHHA because of a scout camping conflict.
-The number of attendees to the spring MAHHA has increased substantially each year it has been at Pine Grove. There is a number limit the park has for the group sites. We are up there in numbers, but have room to grow. If scout troops started attending, those numbers would sky rocket quickly and push us over the limit.
-The fall MAHHA has had to find another location because of growth of attendees. We have a great place for the Spring MAHHA with all the trees, the pavilion and bathroom close by, and a family campground just up the road. We don't want to jeopardize the continued use of these facilities by out-growing our welcome.
-With Pine Grove, the sites are reserved for the "Hammock Forums MAHHA".
-Parking is a big issue for us. We have limited parking available for our group. We have all the sites reserved for 2014, so we don't need to save any parking places for anyone outside our group. Point of fact...the last three years, one or more sites have been reserved by the boy scouts, and with their vehicles, and the amount of people in the area...the parking and use conditions were overcrowded. Reserving the entire group area eliminates the over-use, especially the parking, when scouts are also in this area.
I hope you understand the reasons behind this decision.
Additional note...Tim's suggestion...Caledonia State Park has a group camping area. If you choose to have the scout camp-out down there...maybe you, as a HF member, can get away Saturday afternoon for the dinner and raffle...would be great to see you again!

I understand your points completely. I like the suggestion of Caledonia State Park. Also looks like Camp Tuckahoe is nearby as well. We've camped there before. I think we can make this work.
Now to figure out Fall MAHHA, same weekend as district camporee.
