I have a new apt. 2nd floor.
I had a VERY difficult time finding studs as this place is over 40 years old,
and mostly adobe style.
I hung the porchswing bolts I have (rated at 1500 pounds)
1 - was in the header above and slightly left of the front window. 83" off the ground.
2 - I could not find a stud in another wall, so I found a joist in the ceiling ( I could tell by the tape marks as well as trying with a pilot hole - well, several )
that is approximately about 16 feet away. The ceiling is 8 feet high.
I have been sleeping in this for about 6 weeks now when I looked up one day and noticed that the ceiling hook is angling toward the other hook and looked as if it was going to fall out at any second.
I am hanging in a Yukon (the Woot special one) since I am waiting on my other hammock. The Yukon is quite a bit wider than my HH, and I had great difficulty getting out one morning...and I would categorize this as I actually, in trying to get out of such a deep well, fell out of the hammock (controlled fall )
I later screwed the hooks to the point of denting in the sheetrock and They cinched right back up.
Haven't hung in it yet. (not too far to fall....less than 18 inches.)
Just needing some thoughts on static or shear force and this different configuration of hanging.
Or do you think I should just get some longer lags?
thanks for you help.
