First "hammock hang" ... in my basement!

Hammock newbie here... decided I needed to give them a try!

Over the weekend I picked up an ENO Doublenest hammock, and got home only to be reminded that my backyard does not have any trees suitable for hanging a hammock from!

I decided that maybe the poles in my basement would be far enough apart... the basement is finished and for some reason (to my cat's delight) the previous owner had carpeted the poles, so the straps would probably not slip. After getting an "Are you freaking crazy?" look from my wife, I went ahead and hooked it all up!

I had to move the poker table over a bit... but here is how it ended up (sorry, there just happens to be no lights over it so it is kind of a crappy picture):

    From the other side:

I wasn't too sure about it - the fabric just looks so thin, and I'm not exactly a lightweight (250lbs at 6'1")... but I went ahead and climbed in. It was immediately very comfortable. Here was my initial view from the hammock - I had been hoping to see the screen in there so I could relax and watch a movie, but no dice:

I decided to try the other direction so I could watch the little TV above the bar... and that worked out perfectly!

After a bit I decided to try making myself a temporary structural ridgeline out of some 550 cord... so I came up with this design to make it adjustable using a Prusik knot and a figure 9 clip. It helped me find a good angle and get a really comfortable position to "hang out" for about an hour before I had to get back to reality.

Anyway... there it is - my first experience with a "real" hammock! LOL! Much better than my past experiences with those white woven nylon cord hammocks in the past!!

Looks like you've got it all going your way. Great looking place to hang out, you just might have created a bit of envy.

I just had one of my rigs set up for a year in my basement, I loved it. Hung it right in front of the tv basement hanging is the best !!!!

Was definitely nice! Unfortunately we have 2 cats, so leaving it there isn't an option unless I want it full of holes

    Haha! Thanks!
The basement was one of the big selling points for us when we bought the house, and we definitely enjoy it. The "blue room" is my baby... It used to be some sort of strange mirror walled room that I don't even want to know what used to go on in.
Anyway - back on topic: I'd love to spend a night sleeping down there to try the hammock out "for real" but I don't think the wife would be too thrilled about it

I wouldn't be too worried about your cats poking holes in your hammock, just leave a blanket, quilt or something inside so they aren't right on the nylon. Don't be surprised to find the kitties snuggled in there when you're not around, and, of course, joining you when you're watching tv. My kittykats almost live in my hammock.

You may be able to pull some snake skins over it when not in use. I'm guessing as long as your hammock isn't full of cat nip you will be good

Another great idea! I'll have to hide the catnip somewhere else I guess.
