Great job!

Looks like a fun little project. Hopefully it works out on the legal end and they allow you to put her in the water.
Can't wait to see the boat christening ceremony! How cool!

A couple of things to help you on your way:
look at investing in a battery lightstick (google lazerbrite 2) they will run for a long time ans can be seen by other boaters.
look into running a couple of boards parallel to your barrels and perhaps even aluminum "nests" for the barrels to keep them steady. I built a few rafts and saw a few hundered more for an annual homebuilt raft competition (many years ago) and saw a few blue barrels roll out from under rafts.
i will second the warning about bugnetting becoming a hazard
I really want to see this project as a success, and have it catch on.
I got around to putting a deck on the raft this weekend as well as picking up some of the supplies for while I'm on the water. Still no word yet on whether I'll be ok with the previously DMSO-containing barrels, but if I get shut down, Craigslist can provide some good alternatives, I'd just rather avoid the hassle.
Even with the decking attached, I'm still able to move it from the garage to the lawn without assistance and I'm confident that I can lever it up on the roof of the Jetta, though I'll need a blanket or something to cushion the side of the car.
All that's left now is to put in the PVC so that both sides of the tarp can be lifted up at the same time, to attach the fish net to the underside in the middle for cargo, and to build and attach the mini-hammocks on the sides, though I'm toying with leaving those open and just attaching a rope ladder instead ... I think I'll just build one of the mini-hammocks and see how it goes on the maiden voyage.
Just 12 days to launch!

Be dangerous, but good.
Great... Children will like
That looks great! Hope the launch goes well.
Does it have a name yet? you might want to secure the cooler and the grill to the deck? just a thought. looks cool. I still can not beleive you are transporting on the roof of a jetta.. maybe an old trailer might be a better/ safer idea.

I am also still not a huge fan of moving this with your Jetta, but you know best!
Throw a large thick moving blanket over the car, angle two good 2x4's up against it and slide that puppy right up on there.
Oh, and your crew is clearly ready for anything. No worries of being boarded by enemy pirates.
Good luck Captain!
