    Superfly and your ridgeline

So, after a discussion with Brandon I've been told that it's recommended that you go point-to-point with your ridgeline rather than having a continuous ridgeline for this particular hammock to get a good, tight pitch.

That said, has anybody got any experience with using a continuous ridgeline with a Superfly (or any other similar tarp)?

If you do go continuous, I'd go over the tarp with the Superfly...this is what firemedic did with the MJ he won at the Spring Swing...

With my Edge, I did use tarp flyz on each end instead of a continuous ridgeline, and I missed having it as I found it more difficult to center, etc.

That's the concern I have...ease of centering vs. guitar-string tight.

I will say, with my WD11 from UGQ I'm using a continuous ridgeline, and I haven't gotten it as tight as my Edge...yet...only pitched the tarp once so far. I do think it was tight enough though. I guess it's a trade off...I prefer the convenience of the continuous ridgeline as long as the tarp is close to guitar string tight...plus with the center pole mod, I'll pretty much need the continuous ridgeline under the tarp to hold the pole in place.

Oh yeah...the reason I say to run the continuous ridgeline over the Superfly is because I believe the center seam is cat cut as well...this will allow it to curve as it's meant to...

Mine is on top, because I was told the SF rl is cat cut, and under would interfere with it. Don't know if this is correct, but it looks like it's cat cut. Hangs nicely, in any case.

Rig mine over the top and have had no issues with it whatsoever. I do like the ability to adjust it ... so that's why I chose the continuous ridgeliine.

I just use the method Brandon shows in his tarp rigging video on the site... It works absolutely perfectly; I get that tarp really wrenched down so there's no flapping in the wind at all.

I don't understand the complaints about 'centering' the tarp... I've gotten good at eyeballing where the tarp should be and I just use the whoopies to center the hammock under it.

I most always hang my hammock first, so I know about where to locate the first end of my SF. It always up centered up very nice. I know, if it is already raining this isn't the best way to do it. Anyway, I haven't yet used a CRL on this tarp. If I ever get around to ordering some of that good yellow line I might make one.

With an 11' hammock and an 11' tarp, centering is important.

Maybe once I've set it up and I see how much wiggle room I have, it won't be AS important...but I know with my Kelty Noah 12, I don't have scads of wiggle room.

But can't you still do the centering with the hammock rather than the tarp?

Even with an 11' hammock you're likely only around 9' long for the hammock's actualy lay, based on the 83% rule of thumb.
