    Hey thanks for the great replies - I am cutting a Thermarest micro light foam into 2/3's and using it as part of my kit... guess I learned something ya can't park where you want to on the AT. Really ridiculous on a ridge in the night and poor weather.
    There was an Old Man with a owl,
    Who continued to bother and howl;
    He sat on a rail, And imbibed bitter ale,
    Which refreshed that Old Man and his owl

    Another trick I have used, in addition to the ones mentioned, if you use a pack liner such as a trash compactor bag, place it inside your sleeping bag around your feet and up your legs. It does a great job of blocking wind and increasing warmth.

    Just thought I would mention.

    Thanks. The credit goes to an Adirondack NPT hike this spring where it never got above 40 and snowed in late May with the wind blowing 20+ all the time. It is amazing how creative you can get when shivering for a few days ....I tried it on the outside of my TQ but, it actually started to create condensation..moved it inside and it worked well.

    The mother of creativity is a cold, wet, windy hiking trip!
