I'd say try finding some kind soul who has a sewing machine and beg/plead them to sew on a reinforced patch. Glues might fail on you and won't give you any warning. Failing that you might try your local drycleaners or tailors. I'd think that if it was done properly and was on the outside of the hammock you'd be fine. (insert legal waiver here). Old style Hennessey's have that big entry hole on the bottoms and they managed to sew it well enough to ensure no tearing.

If you're a heavy guy though, you might just want to replace.

I would also suggest finding a new carry method for that multitool. Instead of going through the hammock, it could have cut you a new asterisk. Out of curiosity, what make/model tool was it?

Exactly. That's what I was hinting at.

it was kind of ironic, as i was laying in the hammock, i remembered a review saying not to get in it with a knife or blade. i planned to exit the hammock to remove the multitool and that's when i heard the tearing sound. this is what i had in my pocket: http://www.buckknives.com/index.cfm?...productID=2932

Just use any material as strong or stronger about 1/2 to 1 inch larger than the hole and put a bunch of stitches at the edges of the hole, at the edges of the patch, and some in between, If you're really worried about strength use a patch for both sides. Flame sealing the edges helps but looks messy.

    Re: repair a damaged hammock?

My machine has a mending stitch . . It is like a zigzag with multiple stitches per zig... works for me...
