I was thrilled to get my new HG Camo Standard Cuben Fiber Tarp with Doors in time for a backpacking trip this Memorial Day weekend. I'd placed the order in early April, and really appreciate the folks at Hammock Gear getting it to me before the holiday. I couldn't be more happy with the tarp!
As others have said, the real-tree-type camo pattern is stunningly beautiful. Especially from the inside. My photo doesn't do the print justice since it's sort of shiny in the light. It's actually darker than the new spring green leaves, but it'd have blended in more if I'd camped near rhododendron or pine. Nevertheless, as a solo backpacker who stealth camps frequently, I was pleased how well it blended in, and certainly much better than my other gray, SpinnUL tarp.
I had been hoping for a storm and rain to test it out properly, but unfortunately the weather was clear.
I still need to play around with how to rig the doors with shockcord and also the various ways to tie back the doors. There seem to be a lot of options. One question I had- when I closed the doors tight by attaching the door guylines to the opposing corner stakes, the opening for my hammock suspension was quite small, and when I got into the hammock, the hammock suspension was brushing down on the top of the doors. Probably should have hung my hammock higher. Anyway, I was concerned about the hammock suspension causing abrasion on the cuben-- can that be an issue?
Here are picts from the trip, camped near Standing Indian near the Appalachian Trail.
