Looks like a great time with a definitely strenuous trail. Thanks for all of the little interludes on what and why you were packing.

    Great report!

Just got back from a business trip last week and getting caught up with stuff now. Great video Grizz--I felt I was along the trip with you. Thanks for the gear rundown--12 lbs. base weight is impressive! Maybe next time you're in ABQ, we can arrange a NM hang in the San Pedro Wilderness.

    Pecos trip gone wrong

Well, tried to spend the weekend up in the Pecos, however due to fires near Santa Fe it was closed. Instead we went to Bandalier for some car camping, but better than nothing. Attached is the DIY gear my son and I used. 1.9ACU camo gathered end hammocks, JCP Puffer UQ for him & sleeping bag mod UQ for me. Bug nets were Fronkey mods. And the tarp was 2 mil drop cloth with braided masons line shock cord tensioner guy outs. The tensioners worked great. The wind was ferocious the first night and I thought for sure the tarp would be shredded, but not at all.
Hopefully the next trip we will get to actually do some backpacking.

Was wondering if the fires were still going to interfere with your trip, really too bad about that. Glad you were able to come up with a workable plan B.

the JCP UQ was great. My son was the first one to sleep and the last awake. I couldn't believe he slept through the turbulent winds. He said he was nice and cozy all night.

Thanks for this evening's entertainment Grizz.
Just posted some pics this morning from my trip late October 2012: "Four Lakes Loop - Pecos Wilderness".

Looks like you got the last shot before the June wildfires. USFS has closed out that district. Hopefully that area will recover quickly. I've done now 4 trips in that area - love it.

Oh, thanks for the demo on the Kumo. Just got the similar designed Mariposa and I only configured the shorkcord across the top of the pack. Didn't see how the same cord could be used to close up the main body - nice tip.
