    Hope this isn't a stupid question, but do the poles need to be shock corded together? or is this more of a convenience thing?

    Not seeing the advantage. You could get away without it, but I can see it being a pain sometimes.

    It would be terribly INconvenient to not have them shock corded. Get the parts to install the shock cord, try it without and then thank us because you have the right parts to make it usable.

    They're just a tiny set of dogbones. Basically a cord with a fixed eye on both ends.
