Just ordered a set of these.... Easton .344 poles, with shock cord and tips already in place..... Will just have to cut down to fit, which will give me plenty extra to experiment with... $31.99 shipped!

My order arrived, and it wasn't long after that we were trying it out in the backyard. Love this! Can't wait for our next trip!

Fine, no one answer. I see people all the time talking about making dog bones, carrying dog bones. Sounds like some creepy hoodo stuff to me...but hey! I'm not judging

Dog bones are simply ropes with a loop at each end. On Hammock Forums, they are often spliced loops at each end of the rope. They can be made from Amsteel, and can be used to extend your hammock suspension, for example, when your straps aren't long enough to fit around a tree. Or they can be made from zing-it and lash-it, and can be used to extend your UQ suspension on a long hammock, or attached to the end of your hammock and used to connect a pillow, and peak bag, or as a handle (with a big loop on one end) to help you sit up or get out of your hammock.

In this case, some of us use small dog bones in the tarp mods. One end of the dog bone connects to the tarp pull out, usually larks headed, and the other connects to the tip of the pole. If you have two poles and four tarp pull outs, then you would use 4 small dog bones.

If the dog bones are larks-headed to the tarp pull out then they are permanent. Yes?

No. A larks head knot isn't really even a knot. It's just a quick way to connect two loops to each other that can easily be disconnected as you see fit. Fallkniven's pictures in post 105 of this thread show a dog bone that is larks headed to the tarp very well.

With that said, I just leave mine on the tarp pull outs when I'm packing my tarp and when I'm using the tarp without the poles. They are a trivial weight to me.

I ordered a set of poles with the dome ends, anybody see an issue with using sewn grosgrain pockets instead of webbing for the attachments?
Just an out of shape middle aged guy who loves doing outdoor things with his great kids...

They work great. Jared from Simply Light Designs uses sewn grosgrain pockets for his tarp pole mods, and I have some on a few of my tarps.
