Fresh off the trail with some thoughts and observations of my new DIY Cuben Tarp. Spent several beautiful days in Shenandoah National Park.
I bought some .51oz/yd blue Cuben fiber from zpacks about a a year ago, and over several months during the winter began construction of my tarp. First I cut the hex panels. Then bonded the ridge line with 94 primer and cuben tape. Cut the cantenary curves in the diagonals. Bonded and sewed the reinforcements in the corners. Sewed the outside hem. And sewed on line lock 3 on all six corners with bar tacks.
All things considered I am Very happy with the final product. Performed very well on my recent hike. The tie out cords are cheap reflective cord from Walmat. I added a temporary continuous ridge line to the tarp this afternoon with 1.25mm dynaglide.
