    Forgive me Father Hammock,

    for I have sinned.

Several weeks ago I rode (triked) for three days on the Great Allegheny Passage trail (GAP) in PA. During an initial reconnoiter several of the campgrounds appeared to be devoid of suitable trees, and the COE campground in Confluence PA specifically bans anything attached to trees.

So I deferred to a solo MSR tent and Neo Air mattress for two nights.

And here is my sin: I rather enjoyed the tenting experience! Of course, I was dog-tired so that may have entered into the equation. And the weather was perfect for tenting, so I suffered none of the disadvantages of ground-dwelling.

As a way of making amends I spent two nights in my Warbonnet over Memorial Day weekend. I feel a slow return to normalcy.

    Jim

Blashpemer repent now or be condemned to an eternity of rocks and roots under your back.

Hey it happens. There will come a time and place for all of us. When we must go to ground.
Life looks better from a BIAS hammock.

    Re: Forgive me Father Hammock,

I haven't slept in a t**t since I got my first hammock, but I have to admit, when I'm camping with friends I do miss sleeping in a place where we are all together and can have a laugh.

Hammocking is sssooo much more comfortable though and hey, that's what a group tarp and a campfire is for!

The last time I went to ground (forced like you) I was marginally comfortable*, but I just froze,,, at 48 degrees outside! In a HEATED tent.

*Being a LONG time groundling in a past life, I was prepared with ample padding, just not enough covering. Used the same insulation to 17 in the hammock & was toasty!
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

I was actually on a roll.........

I estimate it had been at least 5 years since I slept in a tent. And the Cedar Creek Park campground was actually tree-rich. Maybe if I had packed less food and clothing (neither of which were needed) I could have taken a hammock as well.

    Lesson learned.
