    TX/Inks Lake???/Mar 14-17

So my son wants to go hanging again since his first hang went so well. I'm thinking of the first weekend of his spring break, maybe going to Inks Lake. We've been car camping there, & I know they have hiking trails & primitive sites. Anyone with suggestions, info, a better place, want in on the trip would be welcome.

Inks is great, book early it fills fast. Campsites are usually assigned first come, first served and they don't all have trees. Enchanted Rock is about 30 minutes further and is another option. More of their campsites have trees I was there in mid-January. I was hanging at Lost Maples 2 weeks ago and their primitive campsites have plenty of good hanging, not as much in the sites with water and utilities.
    Thanks,

    Mr. G

Another good campground for car camping is Fairfield Lake. Lots of good trees and the staff are very hanger freindly, but the advice on reserving early is good just about everywhere in TX during Spring Break.

So I feel like I need to clarify, I'm not really looking to go car camping, although I'm not opposed to it. Looking more to find a spot for a nice hike (less than 5 miles) in/out, trees for hanging, and maybe some like minded company to join us. I have nothing against SHNF, but as that is right in our backyard, I thought we could try someplace else.

I'm planning a hike on the NETT with my two grandkids and my son for the weekend of the 14th

    http://northeasttexastrail.org/

Easy hike on an old rail bed. Plan was to arrive in Farmersville sometime Friday AM:

    http://northeasttexastrail.org/trail...il-conditions/

hike till past Merit (+/- five miles)

Hike towards Celeste as far as little legs will take us on Saturday:

Then hike into Celeste Sunday AM.

Total is 13 miles in 2 days.

Have had it on hold as we don't have a shuttle for one end. If you and Alex come along, one of us can park at the start and one at the finish.

Fairfield might work for you then. The primitive area is a 3.5 mile stroll around the west end of the lake. When you get there, there are bathrooms and water at the start of the camping area (just a couple of minutes walk from any campsite). Plenty of trees and fire rings all around. And it is usually deserted or lightly used.

I like Inks Lake also, but it is probably already filled up.

Sarge, thanks for the offer, but we won't be able to head out until Friday afternoon.

Inks Lake is awesome. Go For that. i stayed in primitive site number 6 i believe and there were trees for at least 3 people hanging. most all of the sites looked like they would work. it was all booked except for one site when i went in november, and we were the only ones in the primitive area.

Thanks for the info Wesbri, I'll look at Fairfield. Inks Lake is already filled, so I'm looking elsewhere.
