What gear should I treat w/ Permethrin

I am going on my first hike and hang this coming weekend, and want to treat some of my gear with permethrin for bug protection.

I was planning on treating my hammock, tarp, and backpack.

When treating my hammock, should I spray entire outside including the bug net?
Should I also treat my under quilt?
    Pack cover?
    any particular articles of clothing?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Strongly recommend treated gaitors, socks and pants...all light colored to better spot tiny tick nymphs. I also have a treated Insect Shield shirt and bandana.

In my opinion you really only need to treat where biting bugs would want to get to you. The underquilt would keep them from contacting you. I don't really think you need to do the pack.

Of course, you can treat everything. My wife makes me treat everything since she doesn't want me bringing home any "creepy crawlies" into the house. She thinks that when I get home it's like opening Pandora's Box and everything will come out. She might be right there.

I was going to ask the same question but you beat me too it. I'm going tonight for an overnight and am wondering the same thing. I've read numerous posts on here but still have a few questions.

I have the WBBB DL and am wondering if I should spray the inside layer? I know to spray the bugnet, straps, and outside layer.

Is permethrin one of those products where you can't go wrong with applying too much? I am one of those people who have more of a reaction to Mosquitos than bee stings. There's also deer ticks where I'm going and I've had people in my family get Lyme disease in the past.

Looking for a bug free weekend.

Planning on treating some stuff this weekend myself.

I'm going to mix up a solution and soak the hammock and the clothes in it. I'll spray some on my shoes as I don't want to get them soaked.

Don't really see the need to bother with the tarp personally. They can't get to you from the tarp while sleeping, and I'm not worried about every possibly way for them to get to me. Seems far more likely they'll climb on me directly than make it to my backpack while its on the ground and then to me later. *shrugs*

I hang the hammock, bugnet and suspension then drape the hiking clothes, shirt pants socks bandana hat shoes on the hammock. Then spray the clothes flip them over and spray the reverse side. Any over spray will fall on the hammock. When clothes dry remove and spray the hammock net and suspension. The 12oz bottle of Sawyer's from WM is enough to soak everything well.

I always spray my pack. If you stop for a break on the trail and take your pack off and set it on the ground, an untreated pack is an open invitation for ticks. Also, if hiking in tall brush, rubbing against low tree branches, going off trail to get around downed trees, etc. it's another way to let ticks hitch a ride.

I treat everything (shorts, socks, hat, bandanna, pants, pillow, bugnet, hammock, pack) I use Sawyer Permethrin, usually dries in about 1-2 hrs, I hang in my garage and open all the doors for cross breeze, although my SmartWool socks take about 2-1/2 hrs to dry.
