    Tree strap question

Is there a place to find a list of different tree strap options and their weight to strength ratio? Is there really all that much difference to worry about in tree straps?

I plan to use this with my GT Nano 7 and whoopie slings for overnight camping and backpacking. Thanks.

You want to use polyester straps, not nylon as nylon stretches. You also want straps rated between 1,000 and 1,500 lbs. Go with straps 1" wide or wider. ( I use 1" wide).

Strapworks has some good prices but beware that some of the straps I have gotten from them tend to be slick and require a half hitch to keep them from slipping thru the buckles if you are using buckles as part of your suspension. I have not had this problem with other brands.

Aside from his famous hardware, dutch sells tree straps. See http://dutchwaregear.com/tree-straps.html.

Webbing for DIY can be found at http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/p...-page/webbing/. It's also a good place to check on specs.

Thanks everyone. I'm leaning towards a dutchware full suspension kit. Anyone ever use them?

The previous posters are right on about polyester webbing. It's the best fit of materials vs stretch for hammock use. It does come in several thicknesses, and the strength is naturally proportional to the weight.

I'm not aware of a comprehensive list of webbing weights/strength, but I did once measure the webbing I had on hand. As follows.

    Strapworks 1" Polyester / 1.23oz/yd
    Strapworks 1" Seatbelt Polyester / 1.04oz/yd
    Warbonnet 1" Polyester / .65oz/yd
    OWFINC 1" Polyester (Woodland) / .63oz/yd
    Harbor Freight 1" Polyester (Yellow) / .54oz/yd
    JRB 1" PolyPropylene (black) / .61oz/yd

Lots of other hammock product makers use the same suppliers as listed above, particularly OWFINC. So, their measure would be equivalent.

    Hope this helps.

Hundreds of hammockers use Dutchware suspensions..... So yes, 'anyone has ever used them'.

Can't go wrong with it, but you will be missing the fun of making your own whoopie slings. I'm all thumbs and yet made a perfect pair on my first try using the instructions here:

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=70189

My suspension system has three easy components: tree straps (bought from dutch), diy toggle (a three-inch piece of nylon tubing from the hardware store), and a pair of diy whoopie slings made from 25 feet of amsteel, also ordered from dutch.

I use tarp flyz in my tarp's fixed ridgeline, but see no need to use hardware for my hammock suspension.
