Here's some still pics and HD video of a 5.9 mile loop hike I took yesterday near Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park. I hiked down in a canyon along the Rose River, then back up along Hogcamp Branch, and finally back to Skyline Drive along the Rose River Fire Road. There are at least two good camping locations for hammocks. One is on a bluff looking down at the Rose River Falls - I threw up a day hammock here in the pics. The second is at the bottom of the loop where Rose and Hogcamp meet.
This is a fairly heavily traveled loop but hardly anybody comes off the main trail - I only had one person venture up to my hammock spot while I was there.
The Cave Family Cemetery is, apparently, still active. You'll notice a freshly dug out section and the place is well groomed for a cemetery inside the park.
Anyway this loop is worth thinking about if you want a place to hang near waterfalls. The site has a fire ring but there are no fires allowed in the Shenandoah backcountry - camp stoves only.
