Frozen butt syndrom while using DIY UQ

    Hello to all from Sweden.

As i am a spanking new hammocker, broke the ice this weekend, i turn to the collective competence of HF.

I had my first night hanging this Friday and i used my DIY hammock and UQ.

After maybe two hours och excellent sleep i woke freezing my butt of.
I wasn't cold outside, mybe like 59 degrees and i had i small breeze.

The UQ is made from a sleepingbag with a 41 degree comfortlevel so that puzzled me quite a bit. I've tried the setup at the comfort of my home and at that point i was getting really warm, almost sweating.
My theory is that i had to much tension on the UQ and my body compressed the insulation to a point that made it useless.

Any experiences on having to much tension om the Quilt?
I'm planing a little longer hike within a couple of weeks and i really want to sleep in my deluxe sleeping arrangement, but not if i'm gonna be cold and miserable.

Have someone else get in the hammock and see where any gaps appear. My guess is there were some gaps that opened up when you set up outdoors that did not open up when you tested at home. It's really important to get the suspension such that the UQ is hugging your body from underneath and always in direct contact with the hammock. Anywhere there is space between the UQ and the hammock you are going to get a cold spot.

    Thanks Bubba.

Laying in my hammock as we speak i tightend the suspension up like crazy and voilą, warn and fuzzy.

There is some gap i like two places that i can't get rid of but i'm guessing that's because of the sloppy way i made the UQ.
Thinking that a piece of pad will fix this.

How do you have it suspended? Do you have it going over your ridgeline and pulled up towards your straps?

I use channel suspension with shockcord up to my whoopie sling, hanging the shockcord just by the whipping of my hammock.
It's almost a full lenght quilt, covers my entire length save for the calves and feet....

Can't put my finger on what i'm doing wrong...

Re: Frozen butt syndrom while using DIY UQ

That's how I hung my DIY sleeping bag UQ at first and I was having issues, too. I ended up replacing the shock cord with paracord because the bag was so heavy it was pulling on the shock cord too much. Then I ran the cord over the top of my ridgeline as this pulls the bag UP. Then I ran shock cord from where the cord tied over my ridgeline up to where you have it attached now near the whoopies. Basically, this is what triangle thingies do if you were to use those. I have a set I received for Christmas from my Secret Santa and use them with my DIY down UQ now. It makes hanging very easy and eliminates cold spots. If you can sew a little, you could easily make a set.
