    How to measure???

New to this all. I was thinking it might be good to have a struct. ridgeline.

I saw that you measure the hammock and it should be 83% of that length.

I have a ENO double nest it spec measures at 9'4". Should I just use that or should I actually measure the Hammock and if so is it from the Carabeners or the cloth Just not sure.

    Thank, Pete

83% is a rule of thumb with the length of the fabric used - but feel free to try different lengths to customize to -your- needs.

    Cheers!

Set one and play with the length, but the 83% is a good starting point.

    Measure. Advertised specs are meaningless.

Decide where you are going to attach the ridge line, and measure from there. Fabric length is also meaningless.

After you do all of that, remember: 83% does not have the force of law. It is a starting point...some need more, some less, and you'll find some hammocks are more forgiving than others.

Old gringo said everything I was going to.

I can add that you should include the carabiners in the measurements of the ridgeline but really, the 83% is only a start. Consider making or buying an adjustable structural ridgeline so you can experiment with different levels of sag. Once you get it to where you want it you can leave it on or make a static one and replace it for the adjustable one.

+1 on this..I couldn't have said it better. This is the correct way to do it.

I'm also new to this but what I heard is you measure from where the ridge line will be attached. I have a DN as well and my RL is currently at 93"

I would think with an adjustable ridgeline even if you used manufacturer specs there would be enough adjustment to find your optimum length. I did just that on the first couple ridglelines I made and was able to achieve a comfortable lie. The last few,for the kids and enlisting their help, were measured at the attachment point.

Don't sweat the small stuff, it's just hammock hangin- beats layin in the ground either way
