Lightbulb Kammock releases Glider rain tarp and collection shelter

Just passing this along. It looks pretty awesome, even though it took them three years to release it.

It has four funnels (one on each corner) where you can connect a water bottle to collect rain water. It also apparently reflects the sun's heat to keep you cool.

    What do you guys think?

I think it's very similar to an idea that Tom Hennessy suggested with his tarps years ago. http://hennessyhammock.com/articles/tips_from_users/ - There was an idea of attaching funnels to tention the fly and collect rainwater at the same time. I'm not sure why he didn't do anything with it, but I still think it's a great idea.

Emphasis on this part. We all know Bear doesn't drink water.

More seriously, I'm not sure how I feel about the price point to get one as a KickStarter reward or whatever they call 'em. I wanna know the MSRP.

There are contamination issues with collecting water off of any roof. Anywhere I have been that had enough rain to wash off the roof then let me collect water also had more than enough water around to just scoop up and process. That leaves me wondering why I would want to bother carrying the collector system. OTOH on some long rainy days I have dumped tarp puddles into a wide mouth nalgene... ;-)
    YMMV

I suppose it saves you the step of scooping it, but the hassle of detaching from the tarp and/or setting the bloody thing up in the first place might possibly negate any benefit.

    Clever? Absolutely.
    Useful? Maybe.

Maybe in an extended dry weather base camp setting it might come in handy for the reflective aspect of it. For the the demographic that will likely buy it, I suspect it will not get much use for collecting water beyond the novelty of it. Some dessert trekkers or survivalists out there might use it but the average Joe? I don't know, I can't see it.
