Shorten Easton alum tent poles: Shock cord attachment?

I got a set of three .340" aluminum Easton tent poles from fleabay. One pole is exactly 2 pole-sections too long for my Tadpole tarp with freshly sewn-on 2QZQ pockets.

The shock cord is attached inside the end sections on the "inboard" side of the end sections , so not near the end plug.
It looks like there is an internal ring about 3" in, which seems to hold a knot in the shock cord.

If I simply cut the shock cord, how do I attach it inside the end section after removing the extra 2 sections?

    Your suggestions are most welcome.

pictures would be helpful. Is the end of the pole open. If it is you can just stretch the shock cord out the end and tie the knot and let it go back in to stop on the ring.

Shorten Easton alum tent poles: Shock cord attachment?

In the end I just cut and shortened the cord and tied the ends together with a fisherman's knot, which is then slid inside one of the remaining middle sections.

I've used a washer or hex nut on the shock cord: the section attachment piece is stuffed into the section so find a nut that is small enough to go in the larger part of the section but too big to slide through the smaller portion.

Well. That's not too clear. Oh well.
