Gotten molested in your hammock lately?

    No joking.

Over the weekend I was at a public campground during the pouring rain and raccoons kept visiting me under my tarp.

They didn't bother me much until one grabbed my butt with both paws thinking it was a bear bag.

Anyone else have incidents similar? :what:

Hey, they just needed to stay dry too! Better to be molested by raccoons than by bears . . .

Last summer we were at a friend's fishing cottage in Ontario for a week.
We set up our hammocks at the edge of the lake for a couple of nights.
During the night, racoons ran under our hammocks to get to the water.
They made a lot of noise fighting with each other, but didn't bother us at all.
Sounded like tasmanian devils at times!! Especially when the kids happened to leave their container of worms on the dock overnight, or when someone cleaned a few fish and left the bucket of "leftovers" near the dock!

LOL - never had that happen.

Maybe it was just one racoon that kept coming back because he/she really liked you!

A light breeze swept under my hammock and caused me goose-bumps and a deep feeling for Mother Nature. She stirred me.

Not in a hammock but years ago we used to canoe the wilderness trails of the Okeefenokee Swamp every year. At night on the sleeping platforms, or the occasional land base, you could not turn your head for a minute or a raccoon would grab anything lying around and haul out through the swamp with it. You could not chase them because you would break through the "trembling earth". One night I had one steal a pot of rice off my stove while it was cooking! They truly are striped bandits.

I have yet to see a raccoon out in the deep woods away from public campgrounds. Never see one whilst backpacking. Or a grey squirrel.

Last week me and Buddy went to spend a few days relaxing on a ridge top. The end of the school year was pretty hectic and it was nice to be up on the ridge overlooking a farm valley and just relax. We had two great days until a Timber Rattler decided he wanted our rocky overlook for himself. I used my hiking pole to carry him about 50 yards down the trail to another sunny outcrop thinking he would stay there. Less than an hour later Buddy started barking and here comes the snake back up the trail. It stayed coiled and rattling about 15 feet from the hammock as we packed up to let him have his way.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
