The Impetus 1.0 fabric that arrived the other day has what I'd call a "nice" hand. When I think of a "soft" fabric, I think of something with a knap to it like natural fibers, but I've never run across lightweight synthetics like that. The Impetus seems to me more like a smooth-woven silk that's as thin and flexible as a plastic grocery bag.

Kind of weird combination of traits, but "soft, quiet, breathable grocery bag" is how I'd describe it . The 1.1oz shell fabric has a heavier DWR and is definitely further on the "plastic-feeling" scale, but nowhere near even uncoated nylon ripstop.
