Have you tried a double wrap?
You could use a climbers prusik. Prusik the pole then biner to the prusik. I believe that's what a prusik was originally intended for to begin with actually, climbing.

You could try an icicle hitch too.

Yep, icicle hitch would work, but I'd bet a few extra wraps would accomplish the same thing.
You're never lost if you don't care where you are.
I have hung from metal poles with no issue. I wrap the straps several times around the pole. Haven't had one slip yet.

I just use a multiple wrap on poles. My hammock is mounted on metal fence posts right now in the back yard.
