Lot of dead trees in Indiana

One thing I saw on my first trip, don't know if I would have noticed as much if I were not hanging was how many dead tress there are in Indiana. It seemed like 1/3 of the trees were dead in southern Indiana. I know the pines had a rough couple of years with disease and drought, but is it that or acid rain killing these beauties off?

Also I'm gettin real picky about where i set up because of that.

Pine beetles,,severe storms from last couple of years, old age as Virginia pines just don't live forever and that is what DNR planted by air a number of years ago for soil erososion projects back in the 40's and 50's. Just be careful of them.

And the emerald ash borer is taking its toll in the east. You never realize how many dead and dieing trees there are until you walk around looking for a pair of healthy ones.

It is terrible in the Rockies. So many years of drought weakened the trees and made then vulnerable to insects, and in some places dead trees outnumber the healthy ones. It is now much more challenging to find a safe campsite.

I noticed the same on a hike out here in CO a few days ago. Sad to see more dead trees than living ones, let alone healthy ones. ;c
